In 2008, the Do Good for the King project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and partners from the public and private sectors, organised a Pha Pa (robe presentation to monks) with people in Thailand and abroad taking part.

The number of Buddhist temples benefiting from the programme was then extended from the initial 2,551 to 2,617. This was in gratitude to His Majesty King Bhumibol, and to foster Buddhism, especially in underprivileged areas such as the southern provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala.

In three trips to these three provinces, a C-130 military aircraft transported the merit-making members to perform Pha Pa donations at more than 200 temples, as well as providing necessities and moral support for soldiers stationed in the area and the widows of 400 families.

This has reminded us that it is our duty to preserve Buddhism and the monarchy, and brought to mind the question of 'Does Thailand have 76 or 73 provinces?' It now seems that the Thai people have ignored and deserted the people and the monks in these three border provinces.

The programme was honoured by HRH Princess Soamsawali, who graciously presided at the Pha Pa presentation ceremony at Wat Rakang Kositaram Temple, Bangkok, on 27 October 2008.

Air Chief Marshal Abhisit Julamok Deputy Chief of the Air Staff, and 'Ajarn A' Krisana Suyamongkol, on the visit to the south.
The eight tonnes of Pha Pa to be presented to 200 temples, plus essential items for the soldiers and 400 widows carried by C-130 on three successive flights.
Pha pa were presented to monks from Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani provinces at Wat Muang Yala, Wat Chang Hai and Wat Ratburana in Koak Pho district of Pattani.
When the merit making group presented relief items to 400 widows from Ban Rotubatu, they were thanked with a show and the G1 Band playing dharma songs.
Group leaders and volunteers risk their lives to the red zone with a security guard of hundreds of soldiers. They are happy with their merit mission and encourage others to join the project this year.

In order to support the preservation of Buddhism in Thailand, DMG Books is joining forces with Sathira Dhammasathan , state agencies and private organizations to launch the project 'Compassionate Mind for 2,552 Buddhist temples: Fundraising for the establishment of Savika Sikkalai'.

It is an innovative online merit making for people around the globe.

Now it is possible to make merit online. All items will be dispatched by the Thailand Post service. This service is open to all people around the world, and the proceeds will be donated to fund the establishment of Savika Sikkalai, a new Buddhist university.

We cordially invite you to participate in this merit partnership by helping us publicise and spread this information as you wish. Thank you.

The service started from 1 June – 31 August 2009.
